Welcome to the IMS Ibiza Day 2 recap, where the beats were bangin', the insights were flowin', and the wind was... well, it was windy!
Thursday saw IMS Ibiza kick into high gear, with a jam-packed schedule, that left attendees making some tough decisions. You needed a GPS just to navigate it. But hey, that's the price you pay for being in the heart of electronic music. No matter where you turned, valuable insights were waiting to be discovered.
The summit stage indoors was ablaze with the fiery "Ask Me Anything" session featuring Ibiza's top club promoters. From debates over Ushuaïa and Ibiza Rocks' daytime parties to the pressing issue of young people being priced out of the island, no topic was off-limits.
Meanwhile, the distribution session shed light on the unsung heroes of the industry, emphasizing the pivotal role distribution companies play in shaping careers. Southern Fried's montage of hits kept spirits high, ensuring Elton John's "Ready For Love" became the day's unofficial anthem.
In a Brave Space, DJ Pierre took us back to the roots of our culture with the genesis of "Acid Tracks," while outdoors, Frank Nitzinsky championed the "Respecting The Creators" campaign, stressing the importance of always crediting artists for their work on whatever the platform.
From Belgian Bash to Global Phenom
Michiel Beers, the mastermind behind Tomorrowland, shared the wild rollercoaster journey of the brand from a Belgian party to a global phenomenon. Talk about going from zero to hero!
Future talent
The industry heavyweights like Pete Tong, Nicole Moudaber Adam Beyer and TSHA offered insights into the journey of what it means and what it actually looks like to evolve from bedroom DJ to main stage superstar in year 2024. Further more on that same stage Pete Tong DJ Accademy announced Beatport award winner Svetti presented the 10 finalist and proclaimed The Grand Prix winners of the Future Talent Award Alev Tav & Fr3ady
Amapiano and Afro-House Take the Throne
But the day truly belonged to the sounds of Africa that took over like a tidal wave. Amapiano and afro-house took center stage in a captivating interview with Nigerian superproducer DJ Sarz and TikTok's Ole Obermann. The Ballantine's True Music discussion highlighted the global takeover of township sounds, proving that electronic music knows no bounds.
Sarz and Charisse stole the show at the Ballantine's True Music x Beatport showcase, showcasing the genre's undeniable potential despite the windy conditions.
As delegates settled into the new venue layout, deals were struck, and connections forged, with the Art of Areté space providing a serene retreat amidst the hustle and bustle.
With one more day to go, IMS Ibiza continues to serve as the epicenter of the electronic music industry, where connections are made, ideas flourish, and the beat goes on. And the wind... well, let's hope it calms down for the dance floor's sake!
